Titans host 2nd Annual SJJ Team Duals to kick off season

Saturday, December 9 began the start of a new era for St. John's Jesuit wrestling as the Titans hosted the 2nd Annual SJJ Team Duals. Head Coach Eric Cubberly made his debut while the team wrestled on brand new mats in new uniforms.

All members of the team participated in the duals as the Titans faced off against Bedford (MI), Napoleon, Rossford and Springfield. The team picked up two wins, defeating Rossford, 60-15, and Springfield, 51-30.

The grapplers were led on the mats by senior captains AJ Savona (170) and Tim Marshall (182) as both finished the day with undefeated 4-0 records. Sophomores CJ Valentine (145) and Nolan Barber (220) did a stellar job as they finished the day 3-1. Numerous Titans also picked up their first varsity wins, including JT Furko IV (106), Derrick LaPoint (113), Chad Berg (132), Gabriel King (138) and Will Lanier (285).

Coach Cubberly summed up the day by saying, "Every guy on this team is important. Each of these 19 guys are committed and bring value to the team."

The Titans will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Fricker's Duals as they will wrestle 10 dual meets in two days.
