Freshman Soccer Season Recap

By Coach Jamie Brower

St. John's Jesuit holds a name for class with the highest of expectations, as a first year coach that is exactly what I got. The team kicked off the season with a great start conquering De La Salle 4-0, with heads held high and expectations being met we continued the season with another win and our first TRAC win against Findlay. Following the season opening wins, the Titans faced one of the toughest programs in Ohio, St. Ignatius. The Titans came out timid but battled the whole match. Quickly falling down one goal in the beginning minutes, we got the spark we needed and competed with St. Ignatius the rest of the match.

After the tough loss, the team came out strong with a win against Perrysburg 2-0 and another tough fall to Anthony Wayne's JV-B team. From our second loss of the season came a turning point and a wonderful click with our team chemistry. Opening the season with two top programs in the state helped the team realize they can play with anyone. Not losing another game the rest of the season, the Titans went on to win the next two games and tie St. Edward, another top tier program. The team continued to win with a great defense only allowing four goals in the last eight games. These accomplishments resulted in a TRAC Championship, 10 shutouts for the season and an overall record of 12-2-2.

As a first year coach at the high school level, the team exceeded all my expectations and made a great step to their bright and successful futures. I could not have asked for a better freshman team and am excited to see how the players grow in soccer and in life.
