Jason Szynkowski Named Head Hockey Coach

On Friday, July 11, Jason Szynkowski was named head hockey coach at St. John's Jesuit High School.

Szynkowski earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Childhood Education from Miami University and played both varsity and club hockey. During his time at Miami, the Red Hawks won the Club National Championship (2000), and he was named an All-American Defenseman (2x) and Team Captain (4x).

"Jason has an extensive hockey background, both as a player and a coach," said Director of Athletics Bob Ronai. "He not only brings a passion, enthusiasm, and deep understanding of the game, but also a love for St. John's."

Szynkowski began his coaching career at Miami University, first as a player/coach for the Red Hawks, before taking over as the Club Hockey Head Coach from 2001 – 2003. During his time at the helm, the team reached the ACHA National Tournament in 2002 and 2003 and were a national semifinalist in 2002.

"I am humbled and excited to be given this opportunity to lead the program. I am committed to excellence, and we are going to do this the right way: with devotion, character, and hard work. This is a labor of love, a vocation. The goal is to develop and grow young men of substance. The winning then takes care of itself," said Szynkowski.

From 2003 – 2014, Coach Szynkowski was an assistant on the Titans' varsity staff. The Titans reached the Final Four in 2007 and 2008, winning the state championship in '07.

Additionally, Coach Szynkowski's experience also extends to summer hockey schools facilitating Defensemen Specialty Camps and Checking/Scoring Specialty Camps as both coach and director.

Szynkowski said, "I am honored to have all those in and outside the hockey community trust and believe in me. St. John's Jesuit has tremendous history and tradition. It's not a jersey that gets handed to anybody; you have to earn it."

Coach Szynkowski, who returned to SJJ as a math teacher in 2020, also returned to the Titan coaching staff as a varsity hockey assistant in 2023.

Welcome, Coach Szynkowski!
