Two senior leaders from the St. John's Jesuit football program were recognized by the Toledo/Wistert Chapter of the National Football Foundation & Hall of Fame for their excellence, service, and commitment to the game of football on Monday, March 9.
Senior Student Manager Cole Nicholson has been named the chapter's Unsung Hero of the Year, while senior quarterback
Coy Hamic has been selected as a 2025 NFF Scholar-Athlete — placing both young men among the most respected honorees in Northwest Ohio high school football.
Nicholson's selection as Unsung Hero of the Year highlights the vital, often unseen role student managers play in the success of a football program. The award honors individuals whose dedication and behind-the-scenes leadership have a profound impact on their teams. Throughout his time at St. John's, Nicholson has been a steady and dependable presence — organizing equipment, assisting coaches, supporting players, and ensuring practices and game nights run smoothly. His selfless commitment and attention to detail have made him an indispensable part of the Titans' program. While managers rarely appear in the box score, their influence is felt everywhere. Nicholson's honor reflects not only his tireless work ethic, but also the culture of service and brotherhood that defines St. John's athletics.
Hamic's recognition as a 2025 NFF Scholar-Athlete places him in an elite class chosen from 91 nominations submitted by approximately 50 area high schools. After hours of evaluation, the selection committee finalized a class of 66 honorees.
The accomplishments of this year's group are remarkable:
- An average GPA of 3.8
- Sixteen student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA
- Nineteen First Team All-State selections
- Fifty-five First Team All-District or All-Region honorees
Hamic's selection underscores his excellence both in the classroom and on the field. As the Titans' quarterback, he has demonstrated leadership, poise, and competitive drive. In the classroom, his academic performance reflects the same discipline and commitment that define his play under center. The Scholar-Athlete award celebrates those who embody the true mission of the National Football Foundation — excellence in scholarship, leadership, and athletics — and Hamic's achievements exemplify that standard.
Congratulations, Titans!
