Head Football Coach Larry McDaniel is entering his eighth season at St. John's Jesuit High School. Each year under his helm, the Titans have qualified for the OHSAA Div. II playoffs.
In 2021, the Titans recorded a 34-13 postseason win at Avon Lake. In a shortened 2020 season, the Titans finished the regular season 4-1 before hosting a regional game. In 2019, the Titans finished the regular season 7-3 before hosting Westerville South for a 42-34 Regional Quarterfinal win.
Also in his time at SJJ, over a dozen players have moved on to play collegiately.
A native of St. Louis, Coach McDaniel brought 20 years of collegiate coaching experience to SJJ. Prior to SJJ, he served as an Assistant Coach with the University of Toledo in 2016.
A 4-year starter at nose guard and 1993 graduate at Indiana University, McDaniel began his coaching career with his alma mater. He then spent one season as the Tight Ends Coach at Southwest Missouri State University in 1998 before becoming the Defensive Line and Defensive Tackles Coach at Ball State University from 1999-2002.
Over the course of the next eight seasons (2003-2010), McDaniel coached the Defensive Line, Outside Linebackers and Defensive Tackles at Kent State University.
In 2013, Coach McDaniel became the Defensive Line Coach at Bowling Green State University. During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, three of his defensive linesmen were drafted or signed as undrafted free agents in the NFL. In 2012, BGSU finished 10th in the country in sacks, recording 38. He helped lead the Falcons to a 2013 MAC Championship and an overall record of 10-4.
Coach McDaniel then returned to Indiana University in 2014 as the Defensive Line Coach. His defensive line accounted for 54% of the team's sacks and 41% of the team's tackles for loss. While at Indiana, he also served as a liaison for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He has also worked in summer programs for the NCAA Men's Coaching Academy and the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Minority Coaching Internships.
In addition to leading the Titan football program, Coach McDaniel also serves as the Director of Youth Programming at SJJ.
