Shawn Contos '93 named Head Wrestling Coach

St. John's Jesuit High School & Academy Director of Athletics, Bob Ronai, has announced Shawn Contos as Head Wrestling Coach. After most recently holding the position of Wrestling Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Penn State University, the 1993 graduate of SJJ is excited to return to his alma mater and lead the wrestling program. "I cannot tell you how honored I am to be back at my alma mater. It is truly a dream come true to come home," said Contos.

While at St. John's, Coach Contos was the first 4-time City League Champion. He also was a 3-time state qualifier and Catholic Invitational Tournament (CIT) champion.

In recent years, Coach Contos qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trails in 2012 and was ranked in the Top 10 in the country. He was also a 4-time USA All-American wrestler, Freestyle Junior National Champion and Greco-Roman Junior National Champion.

Prior to coaching at Penn State, he was the Assistant Wrestling Coach at Iowa State University leading the team to a Big 12 Championship and 3rd place in the NCAA.

Ronai believes, "Coach Contos brings an incredible amount to the table for SJJ with his knowledge, experience and work ethic."

Coach Contos will also serve as the Assistant Strength Coach, assisting not only wrestlers but all St. John's Jesuit student-athletes.

Welcome home, Coach Contos!
